Tasting notes

A sparkling perry made of an old variety called Thorn, there are a very small amount of these bottles up for grabs so don't delay!

Food pairing suggestions

With a flavour reminiscent of elderflower melded with bright citrus this sparkling perry pairs beautifully with Perroche goat’s cheese from Neal’s Yard Creamery.

The story behind the perry

This perry is made from a variety called Thorn which was discovered growing in Gloucestershire in the 1670s. To pour a glass of perry is something of a privilege. Not only is this delicate sparkling drink devilishly difficult to make but also Herefordshire and the Welsh marches are two of the few regions in the world where a perry making culture exists. Add to that the fact that the best perry comes from trees reaching up to 300 years in age and you can begin to appreciate its rarity!

Lydia has painted a beautiful moth called the Canary-Shouldered Thorn surrounded by Blackthorn for this bottles label. We love moths and this seemed the perfect excuse to paint one!

Carbon footprint

The CO2 emissions for 1x bottle of Thorn measures 1.001kg.

We are hugely proud to be the first UK cidery to publish our carbon foot printing data. Since 2021 each bottle produced has contained this information on the label and we are pleased to say that the carbon associated with each bottle is decreasing with each vintage as we continue to make changes in the cidery. We believe that sharing this data is essential for us all to start being able to make conscious and informed choices about what we consume and the effect those decisions will have on our planet.

Does the perry have a use by date?

Unopened and stored in a cool, dry place our perry will be good to drink for around three years  As a general rule, like wine, cider has excellent capacity for ageing.

If the perry has been opened we recommend sealing with a champagne stopper and storing in the fridge for no more than 24 hours.

Is the perry vegan friendly?

Yes, our only ingredient is perry pears!

Is the perry organic?

We only use organically grown, unsprayed pears in our perry. Due to the number of orchards we care for belonging to other people we are not able to offically certify ourselves organic at this point in time.

Does the perry contain sulphites?

This perry contains no sulphites.

Who designs your labels?

All of the label artwork and graphic design is done in house by Lydia using traditional materials. The labels are printed onto recycled paper by a wonderful, local family run printing company and then stuck to the bottles by us using an up-cycled, and crucially, plastic free glue invented by Tom.

Check out our range of postcard art prints featuring Lydia's label art from past vintages!
